About Lee Thompson
Lee Thompson received his Bachelor of Science degree from Kent State University. While working on his master’s degree, he was accepted to law school at the University of Akron. He received his Juris Doctorate in 1983. Following graduation, he opened two law offices in Portage County. Several months later, he accepted a position as managing attorney of the Lancaster office for a Columbus law firm, a position he has held for more than twenty years. In 2005, Lee returned to private practice, forming the Law Office of Lee A Thompson.
In his early years, his practice was varied. As time went on, his primary focus shifted to all aspects of family law, but he has also maintained an ever-expanding general practice to better serve the needs of his clients. In addition to practicing law, he served on numerous public and civic boards.
He is a past member of the American Bar Association – Family Law Division, both the American and Ohio Trial Lawyers Associations, and served as an officer of the Fairfield County Trial Lawyers Association. He is a current member of the Ohio State Bar Association, Portage County Bar Association, and the Fairfield County Bar Association. Lee is licensed to practice law in all courts of Ohio and the U.S. District Courts of Ohio, both the Southern and Northern districts.
Lee has presented seminars on Domestic Relations. He also did an instructional video conference on domestic violence at Ohio University-Lancaster and a training video for Hospice of Fairfield County. He has served as a Judge for the Ohio High School Moot Court competitions. Over the years, he was active in a pro bono legal clinic, receiving recognition from the Supreme Court of Ohio for it. In 1994, he served on every committee in forming the new family law court in Fairfield County.
He has served thousands of clients and appeared in thousands of hearings over the years, but his philosophy regarding trial is that it is to be used as a last resort. As an advocate representing his clients, he always viewed his role as one of facilitating settlement in every case while at the same time preparing for trial.
Lee has experience in various legal fields to provide his clients with effective representation, always keeping in mind that the client is giving him the privilege of representing them. Lee understands he is there to provide legal advice but also recognizing the client makes all final decisions. Therefore, the client must be kept informed of their case and options. Communication is the key to decisions made regarding his clients’ cases.
Since 1983, Lee has been serving the people of Ohio as an advocate for those in need of representation in all courts in Ohio.
Lee lives in Mantua Township with his wife, Dawn, and two cats, Charlie and Flossie. Lee and Dawn have four children: Krystal, Arianna, Alex, and Anna. They have two grandchildren, Adam and Lila.
